Course Work
The openness and ambiguity of HRD’s definition can generate confusion among practitioners, clients, and prospective professionals in this domain. These characteristics allow the influence of economic, government, and social factors in the role of HRD practitioners. The following courses provided an introduction to fundamental theories and practices in the field of HRD.
EHRD 601-Foundations of HRD
The formal definition of human resources development has been shaped during the last five decades by the increasing interrelation among nations in the world. This interaction has resulted in complex dynamics between organizations and individuals’ interests. The role of HRD professionals has evolved from working on closed organizational structures to becoming an active agent who promotes the participation of individuals in the organizations’ open processes. This course provided me the opportunity to explore simultaneously fundamental theories and practices in HRD and their presence in my home-country Mexico.

EHRD 625-Organizational Development
The understanding of the influence of culture in domestic and global corporations allows HRD professionals to select strategies effectively that can persuade individuals and organizations to make the necessary changes. The performance assessment at the organizational, process, and individual level could help to determine which local systems, human factors, or information negatively affects employees’ performance (Swanson, 2007). This courses provided me the opportunity to work with an organization looking to improve their operations as a service provider in a higher education institution.

EHRD 630-Adult Learning
This course changed my paradigm about adult education. I learned that adult education programs are more than just promoting teaching and learning with emphasis on the workplace’s needs. Adult education projects sometimes present the opportunity to have an impact in social justice. I think social justice in adult education means providing access to information and knowledge to all individuals in order to put them in a position of having the same probability to integrate successfully in any socioeconomic environment.
I had the opportunity to observe and interact with two adult education programs in the city of Austin, Texas:
1. The University of Texas at Austin- McCombs Leadership Program
2. Austin Learning Academy – Adult Literacy Program
The purpose of this project is to generate an empirical adult education’s definition and boundaries.
